About

In the fall of 2001, our Bernese Mountain Dog had a litter of nine puppies.

We were living in New York. It was an unsettled time, and my family named them after things that felt worth holding onto — Faith, Honor, Justice, and six more like them. I was in high school. What I remember of that year isn't the news. It's nine puppies in the basement, and the work of keeping all of them fed and warm.

That's the thing about this breed. They turn up when you need them.

My family has been in the Bernese Mountain Dog world my whole life — dog shows, breed clubs, always a Berner or two underfoot. My mother founded Berner University to teach owners the actual science behind their dogs.

I became a parent myself in 2019, and a lot of that earlier year came back.

What I didn't expect was how much I'd care about what my kids slept in. Snug and soft mattered more than I thought it would — there's a real security in it, for them and for us. And the prints I liked best were the loud ones. Bright, dense, a little joyful.

Berner Pajama Co. started with a simple observation: people who love these dogs really love them, and there was nothing good to buy for the babies in their lives.

So we make pajamas. Every print starts with original artwork — Bernese Mountain Dogs first, then Goldens, Labs, Dachshunds, Corgis and the rest. They're printed on premium GOTS-certified organic cotton, cut snug to meet US children's sleepwear safety standards, and built to survive the number of washes a toddler requires.

My kids are older now, with opinions about clothes they hold firmly. So I've started teaching them how a print actually gets made — how a drawing becomes a repeat, why some colors sit well together and some fight. A surprising amount of what ends up in the collection comes out of those conversations. One print, the unicorns, was designed outright by my six-year-old, who felt the collection was missing something. She was right.
